The rate at which new computer hardware products are arriving in the market is simply mind-boggling. As the technology advances, the size and the price of the devices come down, while the efficiency and capacity increase. The scenario is same in all cases, whether it is about internal components like processor, motherboard, RAM, graphics card, and hard disk or for peripheral accessories like mouse, keyboard, and monitors. Personal computers became popular only before about three decades back. But already there are huge piles of outdated and antique hardware components and devices. This is a tribute to the tremendous rate of development of latest technologies in computer hardware field. Perhaps, the newest entrant into the archeological catalogue of computer peripherals is CRT monitors. The sleek looking LCD monitors are spreading like computer virus.

Data storage devices have attracted considerable attention of the technology developers. New kinds of storage devices such as newer versions of flash memory cards, hard disks using latest technology and disks of ever-increasing capacity are the results of advancement in latest technology in compute hardware. The memory size of the random access memory (RAM) cards is soaring to enable the smooth functioning of graphics animation software packages and streaming video websites. Also, computer motherboards have undergone substantial changes over the years. More and more functions are being added to the motherboard. Also, despite the incredible improvement in performance and functionalities, the price of these components has actually fallen steadily.

The most vital component of a computer is the microprocessor. It is in this field that a battle of developing latest technologies in computer hardware takes place. The pace of development of microprocessor increases as the competition between the major processor chip manufacturing companies, Intel and AMD, intensifies. Both the companies are engaging in a neck and neck competition and continuously outdo each other in introducing new technologies.

In the field of computer peripherals, the latest technology in computer hardware is in developing yet another version of wireless mouse and keyboard. The concept of wireless mouse and keyboard is about a decade old. But the development of these items is still a work in progress. The latest products of wireless mouse and keyboard are said to be highly durable and error free.

Some of the developments in the latest technology in computer hardware are gearing up for changing the present concept of desktop and laptop computers. With new developments making possible the convergence of mobile phone technology and computers, a new breed of fully functional palm-top computers are going to be introduced in near future. With touch screen monitors and without the need for a mouse, these gadgets are likely to become the next big leap in the constantly leaping technological development field.

There seems to be a general consensus within the gaming industry that the current pricing model for games cannot continue as development costs have risen dramatically this generation of consoles as gamers demand a visual feast from their HD games.

Even the big boys of the industry are starting to struggle, EA lost $82 million last quarter and have cancelled many games and has stated their intention to concentrate on core franchises, which means less perceived risk which in turn means less innovation and new experiences for the gamer.

The gaming industry needs to find a way to pay for the experience that gamers are demanding and the current financial model isn’t working for the majority of developers and publishers. The industry has seen the explosion of casual gaming and the huge financial rewards that this has brought and want to adapt that financial model into the more hardcore gaming experience.

Of course, there are other financial models already out there than that of the industry standard single fixed price, perhaps the most popular is the pay monthly plan. This is usually deployed by MMORPG’s (massively multiplayer online role playing games) such as World of Warcraft whereby consumers usually pay an initially lower fee for the game but then pay a monthly fee for continued access to the game and its content. This monthly fee entitles the user to continued access, bug updates and usually content updates as well (though big content updates are sometimes sold separately). This model allows developers to be more adventurous and try new things as they can release new content as and when its finished and gain instant feedback on it from the consumer whereas the more traditional flat fee yearly purchase the developer needs to play it safer in order to make sure that they get the sales they need to make a profit.

Another model that gets trotted out a lot as the potential saviour of the gaming industry is the micro transaction gaming model, whereby the initial and base experience may be free but then the user is required to pay small fee’s in order to access more content or additional features.

A popular example of this is the numerous games on the social network Facebook, with the prime example being FarmVille. The game is entirely free to play, though you can ‘enhance’ your experience by buying in game items for real cash.

I’m not quite so sure however how the gaming industry expects to be able to transfer this model from such a casual game market into the more hardcore market that the Xbox and PS3 provides. The industry would suggest that gamers would look favourably upon paying less upfront for the game and trying the core experience and deciding if they like it or not before shelling out extra money for additional access to content or features. However as a gamer I will either know before I buy the game either by playing the demo (or playing previous years if its a franchise) or following the press’ coverage of the game as to whether I wish to purchase and play the game. Do I as a gamer really want to have to feel I have to shell out an extra $5 for a particular feature or item in game in order to feel competitive against other people as they all have it and I don’t?

The industry argues that some people will be able to experience games for cheaper than they can currently due to the flexible pricing that micro transactions offers and whilst this may be true for the very casual gamer, for the hardcore gamer that has been supporting the game industry for years paying hundreds of dollars a years for games it will surely cost them a lot more in order to achieve the same experience that they are currently receiving for their $60.

I believe that this micro transaction model also has a lot of risks for the developers and publishers, if the consumer is paying a lot less upfront then it requires the user to spend quite a lot in game to enhance their experience, this means that they need to be having a compelling experience already to warrant spending more. Currently shovelware still makes a lot of cash as the consumer has no choice but to pay the full fee upfront, if however a user buys it for cheap and then realises how crap it really is then the developer has lost out on money that it would have otherwise already got. This also works the same for more innovative and risky games, the industry isn’t guaranteed a certain profit from each copy sold which means that they will have to be more conservative in the games that they create in order to make sure they make the money back that the shelled out on creating it.

The industry has been testing the waters with going towards a more micro transactional system this generation with the addition of DLC (downloadable content), whilst some of the content is clearly extra than that of which the developer had originally planned for the game, some content for games has been deliberately removed from the core package and repackaged as DLC in order to nickel and dime the consumer for every penny they have.

In conclusion I feel that the industry must change something in the way that they either make games or the way that they price games in order to survive. Either we as gamers must accept smaller lower visual quality games to keep costs low or if we continue to want a movie like experience we must accept that we will be asked to pay more for the experience. It will be hard for the industry to try and persuade the gamer that its in their best interest to move away from the current pricing model as it is currently very favourable to the consumer, however im not sure that micro transactions are the future of gaming.

When it comes to businesses, few things are more important than the security of the documents within a company. In this information-filled world, proprietary information can make or break a business. Before the digital era, companies had little control over how documents were used.

Very important information such as passwords, account numbers, and business ideas could be transferred via phone or in person if there was a concern that documenting these facts on paper could lead to misuse or accidental misplacement. However, you still had no control over how the receiver of the information would handle it. For example, if important and confidential account information was transferred over the phone from a boss to an employee, there was still no guarantee that the employee did not write this information down on paper. Even if the employee had no ill intentions what-so-ever, the piece of paper with the information could have been easily misplaced, or even taken purposely by someone looking to obtain such information. Furthermore, once information was in the hands of the wrong person, it became very difficult to prove the original source of the information, increasing the difficulty of the task of rectifying the situation at that point.

Luckily, in the computer age we live in today, there are many measures in place through which the original creators of documents can mark their work as their own. But as far as security, unless you know how to use the systems in place, you still run the risk of misuse of documents that can easily be taken purposely or sent to the wrong receiver accidentally. A good solution for this is to use PDF documents. PDFs can be quickly and easily created from almost any type of document creation program you can think of. Not only can your average word documents be easily converted into a PDF file, but you can also convert excel spreadsheets, power point slide show presentations, and images as well. Using PDFs to transport your important information-holding documents, you can control who can view, copy, edit, and even print your most precious documents, all using very simple settings.

In addition, if you have several documents to convert that all need to go to the same people for viewing and/or editing (for example, in the situation of a presentation), you can also combine all of your documents into a single PDF file, for quick sharing and a streamlined viewing process. In the same case of a presentation or proposal, this also helps you to control the order of information presented, rather than sending several documents, having to explain the order, and still running the risk of information being conveyed incorrectly. In addition, PDF files offer the advantage of a streamlined “signing-off” process, allowing creators to incorporate a digital signature feature. With this in place, documents that need approval by several people can be sent to the appropriate users, while still keeping security controls in place to make sure that only the intended people can view and “sign” the document for approval. With their ease of creation and multiple benefits, there’s no reason not to use PDF files for all of your document transfer needs.

More people are becoming comfortable shopping for their required items on the internet. The convenience is what primarily attracts them to online shopping. Another attraction to the internet is the great deals available that traditional stores are not able to provide to their customers.

This is very true when it comes to digital cameras. As numerous retailers have established an online store, they have also attracted a good number of customers. However, it may still be an advantage to get your camera from the brick and mortar stores. This is because of the opportunity to be able to handle the gadget with your own hands and get the feel of using it even for just a few minutes.

For those living in the U.S. east coast area, there are various New York camera stores you can go to that offer a wide range of digital camera models from the classics to the more modern ones. The best thing to do is to set a specific time for you to visit one or two stores near your place and browse through their product lines. This step is very ideal for picky people who want to get only the best camera that suits their needs.

With fly by night stores still in existence around you, it is really strongly recommended today to be cautious of the retail companies from where you’re buying your electronic gadgets. If not, you may fall victim of a fake digital camera or even a non-existent store.

When you’re shopping for your camera then, make sure to ask questions from the sales people of your preferred New York camera store about origin of the products, warranties and customer support after purchase. Take this opportunity as well to personally handle the camera you like and don’t hesitate to try different models. This will give you a feel of the gadget to let you determine whether it’s too big, too small or just right for your hands, very lightweight or bulky.

Apart from asking for the model of your choice, there are some camera stores in New York that also display digital cameras available for customers to touch and handle. This is a good technique for encouraging potential customers to try the camera with their own hands and find out if it’s easy to handle and operate.

Once you have this chance, try to operate the camera and ask the assistance of the sales staff if you have difficulty in the control buttons. Do check the viewfinder, the display screen, the interface and try the zoom lens to figure out its performance – whether it’s fast and smooth. Make sure you can see the images clearly indoor and outdoor and the control buttons are easy to find and handle. Some commands and menus of cameras are also easy to use while the others are not so keep this in mind.

Additionally, certain camera stores in New York do a demo of using the product before the customers themselves if they don’t allow personal handling of the gadget. Take this time then to request the demo person to show you how each button works and what their functions are to better understand the operation process.

Within this article I will be providing a few different ways to bypass the expensive ‘high street’ provider insurance route. If you do your research and follow the tips given, there is no reason why you cant make significant savings. Check out my proven methods to save you guys money:

1. Try an independent insurance company Did you realize that there is over 3,000,000 results in Google when ‘iPhone 3Gs Insurance’ is typed in? There are loads and loads of great companies out there. But just make sure that the company is FSA regulated, and the cover they are quoting has everything you need. In most cases you will see up to a 50% reduction – probably the best solution of all!

2. Try your bank! Sounds weird right? Wrong. Most, if not all premium bank accounts offer mobile phone insurance as part of their package. Give them a call and find out the terms of the cover, your excess and also how much they will pay out. In most cases it wont be more than £300 (and unfortunately a new iPhone 3Gs costs £600 new), but that’s not bad when you don’t have to pay anything per month for the bank account!

3. Try your home insurance company One again this sounds crazy – but did you know they usually cover losses and damage (and the rest!) outside of your home! Some people are worried about their ‘no claims bonus’ however its very easy to pay a nominal amount extra each month to protect the no claims. Once again its rare for the home insurance company to pay out the whole £600 for a new iPhone 3Gs, but they will pay a good chunk after excess!

So there you have it, a step by step guide on iPhone 3Gs insurance and how to find the best deal! In summary your best option is probably to go with an independent company and cut your costs by half.

By now, many businesses have caught on to the fact that using PDF files is a great way to keep information secure when disseminating documents. Introduced by Adobe, PDF stands for “Portable Document Format,” and these files do just that-guarantee easy and accurate portability. Whether sending a document within a company, or sending it to another business, using a PDF format ensures that data will be kept secure, as PDFs easily support data encryption. Beyond these benefits, PDFs are very easy to create quickly, the conversion process taking almost no extra time. In addition to the security benefits of these types of documents, PDFs also allow companies to compress large files into easily transportable documents. But aside these advantages, what PDF files are largely appreciated for is their consistency. No matter what hardware or software the file is created in, what operating systems are running on the sender’s or receiver’s computers, PDF files reach their destination looking just as they are supposed to, with no question.

So with all of these benefits, how could there possibly be a downfall to using a PDF file for your most important documents? Ah, but there is-there’s always a catch, right? In the case of using PDF files for transporting documents, editing is the catch. As far as most people concerned, PDF files are extremely difficult, if not downright impossible, to edit. In fact, by definition, these documents are not supposed to be easy to edit, given that they’ve made their name by boasting security and consistency benefits. However, given that the nature of business will require making changes to documents, and the fact that many documents are now sent in PDF format, this has caused a lot of time to be wasted on PDFs-which is ironic, considering that this format originally boasted quick conversion time as a benefit. If you know the person who originally created the document, this might not be such a complex problem, as you could easily reach out to them and ask for the original file. However, this is not the way things work in a business setting. With documents being passed from vendors to clients, from those clients to their fellow employees, and from those employees to business partners, the connection to the original document can be lost in a matter of minutes, while taking hours to uncover the source.

For cases like these, PDF editing software can offer a significant advantage. For example, take the case mentioned above. If a press release got passed from a vendor (A) to his client (B) who works on the marketing team, and from that marketing team member (B) to his boss (C), and from that boss (C)to her partner (D) whose company is also included in the release, and that partner (D) discovered that the original vendor (A) used the wrong logo image for her company, it will save the partner (D) a significant amount of time if she has PDF editing software and is able to instantly change the image. On the same note, PDF editing software allows users to easily make other changes such as fixing typos, reformatting the document, removing or adding text, and adding/editing links. So if your company uses PDF files, which it likely does, it is well worth it to look into a software program that allows you to edit the ever-elusive PDF file.

Spy Gadgets move from fiction to fact – We have all been astounded by the spy gadgets of famous movies and TV shows. Movies like James Bond, Mission Impossible and even when we were kids, the cartoon – Inspector Gadget. At the time of making these were a demonstration of the creativity of the human mind. But do these spy gadgets really exist and is the technology now available to the general public?

One of the most common scenes in films and TV shows for someone going undercover is to ‘wire up’ with cameras and listening devices. Spy equipment is regularly used by Police undercover units and Private Investigators in their everyday work. Button and Tie Cameras with attached recording devices have been around for years, but now ‘wiring up’ has become simple because spy cameras and audio recording gadgets have been incorporated into ‘innocuous looking’ everyday products.

The miniaturisation of camera and digital recording technology means that instead of having to spend time hiding camera systems or microphones and recorders under clothing, the surveillance professional can now literally pick up several everyday objects that are in themselves spy gadgets that will achieve covert video and audio evidence comparable to the spy gadgets of yesteryear.

Everybody carries a mobile phone don’t they, so what about one with a high quality sophisticated camera system built in. Most of us carry a pen about with us, so how about a pen camera or a voice activated pen recorder to get exactly what a spy would need. Forget the bag camera system because camera systems are now available in lighters and car key fobs. How many people do you know who carry a USB Flash Drive storage device on their keys or around their neck. Well how about one that records high quality audio.

James Bond, Ethan Hunt and in fact Inspector Gadget had best get some new ideas because now we can all be budding spies with the latest spy gadgets that can fit in with every situation.

Basic computer hardware refers to the physical parts of the computer that you can touch and feel. There are several components that make up computer hardware. Here, we will just see a brief overview on all the basic components of computer that you should know generally. This will definitely not make you a hardware technician. It just concentrates on giving you some insight about computers.

Every computer has four basic functions to do. They are input, processing, storage, and output. To perform each of these functions, it is necessary that a device is used. For example, to input data or feed data to the computer, you definitely need a keyboard or a mouse. When it is necessary to process some data, a processor comes into picture. All these devices can be touched and felt. These constitute the basic computer hardware.
Apart from the input and processing devices, you must also understand that there are output devices such as monitor, printer, speaker, etc each of which gives some kind of output. Monitor is meant to give the visual output, while speakers are known to produce audio output. The printer is used to get a hardcopy of the text or images that you see on your monitor.

For storing purposes, there are memory storage devices such as RAM and ROM. If you happen to open your processing unit of your computer, you will get to see all these devices stacked inside the cabin. Also, there are buses that are interconnecting these devices to ensure data transfer. Storage devices can also be the CDs you use, or even the floppy disks that were once so famous. DVD is also a storage device.

All these devices put together constitute the basic computer hardware that one should be aware of.
